Hey, Adam Bate here, founder and co-host of The Lifestyle Accountability Show.
Sure, I may have control of my health and fitness now, but I still struggle and I still need motivation and accountability just like everyone else. This is exactly why this podcast exists. Here’s a little bit of my background and journey.
My story might be a lot like yours. I was always fairly healthy. In fact, I was an athlete in high school and throughout most of University. Then life got in the way – or at least that’s the excuse I kept telling myself. Work kept me busy. Exercising came to a halt. I was making bad food choices (did I mention I love pizza and beer?). Before I knew it I had put on close to 50 pounds since University and was unhappy with a lot of things in my physical and emotional life.
I tried to make healthy changes every now and then – changes that would last a few days, a few weeks, sometimes even a month or two. Nothing really stuck, but all the while I’d tell myself “I can always get back into shape if I really wanted to.” Looking back, I’m not sure why I ever wanted to be out of shape.
It was around Christmas in 2012 when I had reached my tipping point. I remember getting undressed and jumping into my family’s new hot tub. That’s when I realized I went from being out of shape to being very uncomfortable and unhealthy. Things needed to change.
Our whole family came together to kick start 2013 by making health and fitness a priority in our lives. From better food choices to exercising more, we kept in communication and helped each other along in the process.
This year was a game changer for me physically. I lost over 40 pounds, I finished a full marathon, and I became a personal trainer. That said, I still have my ups and downs. I don’t make the right choices every day and I still struggle. But I’m going in the right direction.
